Help & Advice: The Most Effective Ways to Use Kitchen Appliances in the Summer

The Most Effective Ways to Use Kitchen Appliances in the Summer

As the weather warms up and the daylight stretches later into the evening, we inevitably start to spend a lot more of our time outdoors. You may not have thought about it before, but what we do differently in summer – from barbecues and pool parties to summer sports and trips to the beach – has an effect on the work we ask of our kitchen appliances.
This month, then, the team at Pacifica is taking a look at how you can get the best out of your appliances over the summer months.

Fridge / freezer

The freezer in particular is going to be worked hard during the summer. Not least because, if you’ve got kids, you might be needing to keep a good stock of ice cream. And if you like to fire up the barbecue at the first sign of a sunny evening, and take advantage of the savings you make buying in bulk, you’ll also need to have room for plenty of sausages, burgers and other bbq favourites.

As for the fridge, you need something to balance out all that stodgy barbecue food, so you can fill the crisper with lettuce, tomatoes and cucumber for a healthy green salad. And, of course, you’re certainly going to be needing plenty of cold beer!

And here’s a little tip for those of you who struggle to sleep when it’s hot and muggy at night. Pop some socks into the fridge – yes, really – and put them on before going to bed. Our feet are a very sensitive part of our bodies, and cooling them down will also cool your overall body temperature.

However, before you start filling your fridge/freezer with ice cream, burgers, salad, beer and socks, it’s a good idea to have a clear out first. That gives you a good opportunity to get rid of anything out of date and give it a good wipe out so that it will smell fresh and clean.

Washing machine

You might think you have to use your washing machine less during the summer months – after all, we’re generally wearing a lot fewer clothes most of the time as jumpers and sweaters get consigned to the bottom drawer for a few months. But it’s not quite that simple, because at the same time, those clothes we are wearing will probably need changing more often, especially when it’s really hot. Summer is also the time when more of us participate in sports, whether that’s a formal game of cricket complete with whites or a kickabout in the park with family and friends.

Add in trips to the beach, and it means that while we may wear fewer clothes at one time, we probably wear more different outfits than at other times of the year. So, if your washing machine thinks it’s going to be having an easy time of it, it can think again!

Boiler

This is the really easy one: turn off the heating. Unless there’s some freak weather, you’re really not going to need it! That does make it a good time of year to get your boiler serviced, however, so that you can be sure that it’s working at its best when it is needed later in the year.

Dishwasher

Summer is not just the time for barbecues, it’s also a great time for friends and family to get together for picnics, pool parties and other outdoor events. That means there are going to be plenty of mouths to feed and drinks of all kinds to provide for visitors of all ages. That, in turn, means that your dishwasher is likely to have a busy summer making sure there are plenty of clean plates, glasses, bowls and cutlery for your guests.

With all those important jobs we need our appliances to do to ensure we have a happy and successful summer, it’s always a great idea to get them regularly serviced to make sure they keep working effectively. You also need to know a reliable company that can carry out fridge, freezer, dishwasher or washing machine repairs quickly.
